Liberty County is joining the list of municipalities that are limiting restaurants to drive-thru or pick-up services and closing bars.
Liberty County Commissioners passed a restrictive motion on Monday asking that residents follow state and federal guidelines to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
“The best way to protect our at-risk residents is by simply slowing down the spread of COVID-19,” commissioners said in a prepared statement. “Self-isolation is something everyone can do to help shield our neighbors during this difficult time.”
Among other things, Liberty County Transit will discontinue service to Havre, limiting rides to pharmacies, grocery stores, and clinics.
Ill people will be required to wear masks, the commissioners’ resolution said. All transit service out-of-town trips will be suspended for at least two weeks.
Group gatherings throughout the county should be limited to 20 people for those older than 60, commissioners said. People under 60 should limit their crowd size to 50.
Businesses that continue to operate are urged to work by phone or computer whenever possible. Delivery and curbside services should be offered.
Commissioners supported Gov. Steve Bullock’s decision that schools be closed and asked that, except for essential personnel, school officials work at home. They also suggested that parents, if possible, stay home with their children. If they are not able, they should not leave children with people over 60 years of age or others who are immune-compromised.
