Havre will soon be home to a hemp oilseed processing company.
IndHemp LLC will begin moving into its Havre plant off U.S. Highway 2 this week, the company’s vice president of operations, Morgan Elliot, said Monday.
IndHemp is contracting with licensed hemp grain producers for 2019 grain production that will be processed at the Havre plant.
In a news release, the company said there is still time for local producers to get licensed, but the deadline is Wednesday. Farmers must be licensed through the Montana Department of Agriculture.
Hemp has been legal in Montana for many years, but was considered illegal under federal law until the Farm Bill passed by Congress in late 2018 legalized it.
“We have secured several varieties of approved hemp seed which will be available for purchase this spring,” said Ken Elliott, president of the company.
“IndHemp has supporting information on the agronomy, harvesting and storage requirements for hemp grain available for our contract growers,” Elliott said. “With the ideal planting window for hemp being the end of May or beginning of June, the clock is certainly ticking for those interested for this year.”
In order to receive a license, producers must comply with all regulations related to the production of hemp in Montana
Farmers interested in growing hemp for IndHemp this season should contact the company via email at [email protected]. People may also register to be a grower on the grower’s page of the website www.indhemp.com.
