Deer Puts A Halt To Pursuit In Hill County – Independent News of the Hi-Line

A pursuit that started in Havre Thursday ended after the driver hit a deer, according to a Havre Police Department press release.

At 8:25 a.m., Havre police officers tried to pull over Terry Lee Wells Jr., 34, of Havre. Wells had two felony warrants out for his arrest.

Wells, who was driving a 2018 Jeep Renegade, refused to stop, leading police on a chase that started in the 1500 block of 11th Street, according to the press release.

Wells sped southbound on Beaver Creek Highway until he hit a deer.

He was then arrested without further incident, police say.

The vehicle Wells was driving was significantly damaged, police say, adding that a patrol vehicle also incurred minor front end damage. There is no further mention of the deer.

Wells had two passengers with him, a 39-year-old Havre woman and a 22-year-old Box Elder woman. The women were released to Rocky Boy police, police say.

Wells is being held in the Hill County Detention Center. He is facing six pending charges of criminal endangerment and an additional fleeing or eluding a peace officer charge.

He has past criminal endangerment offenses were in Cascade County.
