Inmate Dies In Hill County Jail After Altercation

An inmate at the Hill County Detention Center died after an altercation with another inmate Sunday.

According to a press release from Hill County Sheriff Jamie Ross, Gordan Cochran of Chinook, 54, was pronounced dead at Northern Montana Hospital, where he was transported following the incident.

The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident. A coroner from Petroleum County is conducting the medical examination.

The arrest log shows that Cochran arrived in the jail Saturday and was being held on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Monday’s jail inmate roster lists Jesse Shane Valdez of Havre, 24, on a pending charge of deliberate homicide. Valdez was arrested Wednesday on pending charges of burglary, vandalism, trespass to property and disorderly conduct. Valdez is being held without bond. The homicide charge wasn’t listed on Sunday’s roster.
