Brooke Ann Blacktongue
A local woman denied allegations Tuesday in District Court that she choked and tried stabbing another woman with a kitchen knife.
Brooke Ann Blacktongue pleaded not guilty to felony attempted deliberate homicide, assault with a weapon, and strangulation of a partner or family member, as well as misdemeanor assault.
District Judge Daniel Boucher reduced Blacktongue’s bail from $25,000 to $15,000. Blacktoungue was listed on the Hill County Detention Center jail list this morning.
According to court charging documents:
On April 28 someone called Havre City police and reported that she was being punched by Blacktongue. During the call, the dispatch operator could hear screaming noises.
The responding officer found only Blacktongue at the residence. He knew that she and the caller had been in an intimate relationship in the past and that Blacktongue had been charged with partner or family member assault in connection with that same person.
The officer noticed Blacktongue had bloody nose and hands.
The woman who called the police returned and talked to the officer. She had swelling on the left side of her face, a possible broken blood vessel in her eye, blood coming out of her mouth, and a large knot on her forehead. The officer also noticed swipe marks on her face that led him to believe her face was held down, and strangulation marks and scratches on the left side of her neck. Blood drops were found near the exit door and on the cement outside the back door of the residence.
The woman told police she and Blacktongue had a disagreement and Blacktongue started beating and choking her when she tried to leave. She said she got loose after kicking Blacktongue and then called 911, which further angered Blacktongue and prompted her to grab a knife and go after her. Blacktongue said she would kill her, the alleged victim told police, adding she believed she would.
Blacktongue told officers that she and the woman had a mutual fight. When officers decided to arrest her, she resisted.
The next day, the same officer spoke to Blacktongue at the detention center. Blacktongue said she was defending herself as the woman punched her because of an argument they were having over property. Blacktongue admitted she pulled the knife on the woman and threatened the woman. Blacktongue said the woman gave her a black eye as well, but the officer did not notice anything on her eye.
The officer did notice an injury to Blacktongue’s head he did not see the previous day. He later learned Blacktongue intentionally hit her head against the patrol vehicle when entering it.
Blacktongue has pleaded guilty in 2011 to felony criminal endangerment and misdemeanor assault, for which she received a three-year sentence with the Department of Corrections.
Editor’s note: An earlier version said Blacktongue was being held on a $25,000 at HCDC. Court minutes show the judge reduced that to $15,000.
