Police are looking for a local violent offender who didn’t show up to his sentence hearing regarding incidents in which he robbed someone at gunpoint and stole a vehicle.

Dakota Houle, born in 1996, pleaded guilty July 2 to robbery and theft, both felonies. He was released from jail on his own recognizance that same day. On July 24, arrest warrants were issued for Houle after failing to meet with his probation officer.

Houle was scheduled to be sentenced Monday in District Court but did not show up. District Judge Boucher ordered the two warrants on Houle remain.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Barkus of the Havre Police Department said this afternoon that he doesn’t know of any direct or immediate threat to the public. But there’s always a potential of risk with violent offenders,  he added.

Houle’s crimes happened in 2017.

On March 31, 2017, he pointed a pistol at someone whom he stole an AK-47 rifle from. On Nov. 16, he led police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. He crashed the stolen SUV and was caught by Rocky Boy police after fleeing on foot.
