A local woman accused of having methamphetamine and paraphernalia near her young children denied the charges against her Monday in District Court.
Jennifer J. Cazier pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs, three felony counts of endangering the welfare of children, and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court charging documents:
On July 22, a Havre Police Department officer stopped a white Cadillac on the 400 Block of Second Street for having fictitious license plates. Cazier, who was the driver, told the officer she wasn’t the owner of the car.
There were three children in the car — ages 5, 6 and 8 — one which was sitting in the front seat without a seat belt. Another officer had come to assist the first and told the stopping officer that Cazier “had a history of distributing dangerous drugs and being in possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.”
One of the officers asked Cazier if there was methamphetamine in the car.
“She started shaking and became extremely nervous,” charging documents say. “She began sweating. She stated she did not think there was any methamphetamine in the vehicle.”
A U.S. Border Patrol K9 was brought in to conduct a non-intrusive search. Everyone was told to get out of the car. As she was getting out of the car, Cazier tried to take with her a purse that was on the rear passenger side of the car. She was told that everything had to stay in the car.
The K9 indicated there were drugs in the car. The car was seized and an agent with the Tri-agency Task Force applied for and was granted a search warrant to inspect the vehicle.
The search warrant revealed that in the purse were .3 grams of meth, two Clonazepam pills, a syringe and three snort tubes. The Task Force agent reported the purse was found in the back, near the 8 and 6-year-old. The purse, in addition to the meth, syringe and pills, had a credit card with Cazier’s name on it.
